FORESTRY

Forestry is an important activity in the integrated development of watershed areas and plays an important role in soil and water conservation. It also enriches the soil. Forestry activity also controls erosion of soil and also helps in increasing the underground water table. Forestry activities are carried out in private/community/institution lands. Planting of seedlings are being done as per farmers demand. The different afforestation models are given below:


Farm Forestry :


Forest seedlings are being planted in farmers’ land within the watershed areas. In this model local varieties and income oriented 100 seedlings is planted. Ex.: Teak, Silver Oak, Hebbevu, Halasu, HOnge, Bevu, Nerale, Seethaphal, Nuge, Nelli, Nimbe, Karibevu, Perale, Hippe, Seemaruba, Subabul, Agase, etc. 

 

    


 

 


Community land :


400 seedlings/Hect. will be planted in Forest/Community land within the watershed areas. After planting, the same will be handed over to the local bodies for maintenance and to get benefits from these seedlings. In this model seedlings like-Honge, Seethaphal, Cashew, Bettada Nelli, Honne, Bamboo, Holemathi, Sissu, Ficus, Seege, Sandalwood, etc. will be planted.


Water Harvesting structures :


200 seedlings/Hect. will be planted around water harvesting structures and along Nala within the watershed areas. After planting, the local farmers only will get the benefit. In this model seedlings like-Honge, Bamboo, Seethaphal, Holemathi, Seege, Muthuga, Agave, Seeme Thangadi, Glyricidia, etc. will be planted.



Planting of Agave in uncultivable land


1600 suckers/Hect. will be planted in uncultivable area to check runoff of top soil, within the watershed areas. The agave suckers will be planted on bunds of Nala, Farm pond, Gully Checks, Field bunds, Trench cum bunds.


 


Seed Sowing


10 Kg/hect. Seeds are going to be sown on field bunds, Farm Pond bunds, other WHS/ soil conservation bunds. Seeds varieties like: Glyricidia, Cassia Siamia, Pongamia, Bevu, Muthuga and other local variety seds are being sown on bunds.


 


Planting in Institutional land


100 seedling/hect. will be planted in Institutions, Temples, Organizations within the watershed area and after planting the same will be handed over to the concerned institutions. Seedlings like: Teak,Silver Oak, HOnge, Hebbevu, Bevu, Nerale, Seethaphal, Mango, Hunase, etc. will be planted.


 

 


Road side planting:


200 seedlings/Km will be planted on road side within the watershed area. After planting the same will be handed over to the local bodies for maintenance and to get benefit from these. Seedlings like: Hunase, Nerale, Mango, Nelli, Halasu, Arali, Ficus, Cashew etc. will be planted.
